Jalali highlighted the importance of Iran-Russia cooperation during a ceremony in Moscow on Monday commemorating the 46th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution, which was attended by Russia's Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, diplomats, and political and cultural figures.
We have gathered tonight to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, a revolution that brought significant changes within Iran and had a profound impact on regional and global developments, Jalali said.
He stressed that Irans revolution was unique as it was a grassroots movement, independent of foreign influence, and led to the establishment of a system based on religious democracy under the leadership of Imam Khomeini.
Jalali noted Irans longstanding efforts to maintain peaceful relations based on mutual respect with its neighbors, major global powers, and independent nations. However, he said that since its inception, the Islamic Revolution has faced challenges from global powers seeking to undermine Iran through misinformation, intervention, and division.
Despite these challenges, Jalali said Iran has achieved significant advancements in various fields, including economics, healthcare, science, and defense. He pointed to the country's progress in industrial production, nanotechnology, biotechnology, space technology, and nuclear energy, as well as the growing role of Iranian women in education.
He added that around 10,000 knowledge-based companies are currently operating in Iran, contributing to the countrys technological and economic development.
Jalali described the shifting global order as moving from a unipolar system to a multipolar one, with emerging powers shaping new dynamics. In this context, Iran has pursued a balanced approach in its foreign policy, engaging in multilateral cooperation with major and emerging global powers, including Russia, China, and India, as well as regional organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, he said.
The ambassador emphasized that Irans foreign policy aims to uphold justice, equality, peace, and regional stability, while opposing foreign interference, which he said has been a source of conflict and tension.
On Middle East developments, Jalali condemned the long-standing Israeli occupation and the violation of Palestinian rights.
He welcomed the strengthening of Iran-Russia ties, highlighting recent high-level engagements, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkians visit to Moscow in January and the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty.
The Tehran-Moscow partnership has entered a new era of broad and long-term cooperation in various fields, including culture, politics, defense, trade, banking, energy, agriculture, science, and healthcare, Jalali said. He described the treaty as a roadmap for strengthening bilateral ties in the coming years.
Jalali also noted Irans accession to BRICS and the free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union as steps toward expanding regional economic cooperation. He expressed optimism that trade between Iran and Russia would grow significantly in 2024 based on recent agreements.
He said the deepening Tehran-Moscow relationship aligns with the broader trend of multipolarity and stands in contrast to the unilateralism led by the United States.
Russias Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, speaking at the event, praised Irans development as an independent nation and reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two countries.
Our countries have traditionally enjoyed friendly relations based on strategic partnership and shared perspectives, Tsivilev said.
He noted that Russia-Iran trade and economic cooperation is progressing under a solid legal framework, with key projects underway in energy and transportation. He described the signing of the strategic partnership treaty as a milestone that elevated bilateral cooperation to a new level.
As the head of the Russian side of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, I recognize the importance of our mutual efforts in implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in energy and technology, he said.
Tsivilev emphasized that Russia and Iran are working closely to counter Western sanctions, adding that both countries are focused on increasing trade and economic interactions.
He pointed to the December 2023 signing of a full-scale free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union as a key step in facilitating trade.
Looking ahead, he said Moscow would host the 18th session of the Russia-Iran Joint Intergovernmental Commission, where new agreements are expected to be finalized.
Tsivilev thanked Iranian officials for their constructive cooperation and expressed confidence that both nations could navigate geopolitical challenges together.
Senior Russian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, political analyst Alexander Dugin, and Russias Deputy Prosecutor General, also attended the event.
