JAKARTA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has been exploring new export destinations beyond the United States and plans to accelerate trade negotiations in anticipation of new U.S. tariffs, a senior minister said on Thursday.
According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, 83 percent of Indonesia's trade is conducted outside the United States, which the Southeast Asian country should engage in.
"We must collaborate with 83 percent of the world," he said.
Currently, the Indonesian government is seeking new export markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Several trade agreements are expected to be finalized soon, leveraging opportunities with BRICS and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Airlangga noted that the government continues to monitor global trade developments and conditions.
"If we look at current trends, there has been relatively no disruption to our trade," he said.
He remains optimistic that Indonesia will continue to engage in global trade with various nations and is well-positioned to withstand external pressures due to its strong domestic market resilience.
