After brief stints in New Orleans (1984 and 1986) and Arizona (1985), the NFL Scouting Combine moved to Indianapolis where it has been held since 1987.

In 1981, the scouting groups BLESTO and National Football Scouting gathered players in Indianapolis for medical testing; no team interviews or on-field activities were conducted.

The National Invitational Camp, the official name for the NFL Scouting Combine, began in 1982 with only some teams participating. The first National Invitational Camp was held in Tampa, Florida with 163 players participating.

During the first three years (1982-84), two additional camps were held at different times to collect similar information for teams that did not belong to National Football Scouting. In 1985, all 28 NFL teams decided they would participate in future National Invitational Camps with the goal of sharing costs for the medical examinations of draft eligible players. The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine will be the 37th Scouting Combine that all teams have participated in.

2024 NFL Scouting Combine Recap

Xavier Worthy's record-setting 4.21 official 40-yard dash was just 1 of many standout performances by NFL star rookies at the 2024 Combine.

WR Brian Thomas Jr. led all rookies with 1,282 rec yards & 10 rec TD in 2024 after showing similar measurables to Julio Jones at the Combine.

Prior to helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, CB Quinyon Mitchell had similar size & athleticism to 2019 NFL Def Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore at the Combine.

2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse had nearly identical size, length, and speed to 2023 Defensive ROY Will Anderson Jr. at the Combine.

Verse's college & NFL teammate Braden Fiske led all rookies with 8.5 sacks in 2024 after notching the fastest 40-yard dash (4.78), highest vertical jump (33 1/2") and longest broad jump (9' 9") among DTs (Group 1) at the 2024 Combine.

Ohio State (15) has the most players invited to the 2025 Combine of any school, followed by Texas and Georgia (14 each). 15 players are the 3rd-most of any school since 2003.

88 players from schools that made the 2024-25 College Football Playoff received 2025 Combine invites. Ohio State (15; National Championship winners) and Notre Dame (8; runners up) account for 23 invites.
